I am a professor of education sciences at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VUA), Netherlands. In recent years I served as director of LEARN research institute where I remain a program lead and VUA teacher education. Currently I am department chair. My research focuses on learning from two angles. One is education science, looking at the concrete processes that occur in schools and universities. The other is cognitive neuroscience, where I try to build theories that combine what's happening in the brain with what's happening in a classroom. That makes me more of an educational neurocomputationalophilopsychologist than that I belong to any particular discipline. Please have a look at my research projects. I apologize in advance for not giving sufficient due to all my great PhD students, postdocs, and terrific collaborators who have all the great ideas, but I update this website too infrequently to keep up with whom I work with.
